چکیده
OCTOBER 2010 CATARACT & REFRACTIVE SURGERY TODAY 39 A rguably, the single most significant complication faced by today’s phaco surgeon continues to be rupture of the posterior capsule.1 When the posterior capsule is breached, vitreous that presents anterior to the plane of the capsule must be removed. Fortunately, in the setting of small-incision surgery, if the ophthalmologist adheres to certain fundamental principles and employs proper instrumentation and surgical technique, the outcome in the vast majority of these complicated cases will differ little from that of an uncomplicated case.2

متن کاملDavid Kasner, MD, and the Road to Pars Plana Vitrectomy
David Kasner, MD (1927-2001), used his extensive dissections of eye bank eyes and experiences in teaching cataract surgery to resident physicians to realize that excision of vitreous when present in the anterior chamber of eyes undergoing cataract surgery was preferable to prior intraoperative procedures. Noting that eyes tolerated his maneuvers, he then performed planned subtotal open-sky vitr...

متن کاملPost-cataract surgery endophthalmitis treated with core vitrectomy: a case report.
Postoperative endophthalmitis is one of the most serious complications after cataract surgery though its frequency may be low. We report a case with post-cataract extraction bacterial endophthalmitis treated favorably by core vitrectomy through pars plana with anterior vitrectomy cutter (A-vit). The patient, a 72-year-old woman, presented with blurred vision 7 days after phacoemulsification and...

To compare the progression of posterior capsule opacification (PCO) in patients who required Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy following either combined cataract surgery with pars plana vitrectomy (PPV; C-CV), sequential cataract surgery after PPV (S-CV), or cataract surgery alone (CA). The medical records of 321 patients (408 eyes) who underwent Nd:YAG capsulotomy were retrospectively evaluated. The CA...
